Lynn,
I feel bad saying this but I'm kind of happy that you are familiar with that "heart-attack-moment" that I'm talking about. YOU GET IT!!!!! Don't you feel like you have aged like 20 years everytime that happens? I don't even know what I will do if one of my kids yells in my face. I am not looking forward to it. We are so good to them, why are they trying to kill us??
Thank you so much for your comment. I loved it!

I hear ya, sister! My kids know that if I don't sleep, their lives are basically miserable until I'm feeling better! Ha! Seriously, though, the night terrors scared me to death! My daughter is now 6.5, and we haven't had a night terror (knock on wood) for about six months. Here's something new for you to worry about, though...last week, she came into my room at 2:30 a.m. and yelled right in my face, with no pre- warning whisper "Mom! You forgot to give me medicine and my foot hurts!" Ironically, in that post-heart-attack moment, all the attachment worries washed away and specialist tactics were forgotten. She's just a kid who has made a very bad decision, and I'm a mom who's been very rudely woken up. Progress, don't ya think?!

Hi Hazel! I hate to laugh at the "umbrella," but I can totally picture it. It's awful, isn't it? So scary... and then instead of being relieved that the kid is alive and in one piece, you're totally frazzled and your nerves are shot. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving. You are the best!!

You have my undying admiration. One of the families I nannied for had a little one with night terrors... of course, I discovered this *quite by surprise* at o-dark-thirty when I stayed with the kids for the weekend. (Her pleading scream: "I need my umbrella!" is etched in my brain.) After two nights of that I was spent.

Don't know how you stayed put-together during all of that, but my hat is off to you.

In reply to <a href="https://www.dimsumanddoughnuts.com/night-moves-2/#comment-891">Beatrice</a>.

Beatrice,
I understand EXACTLY what you mean when you say that "in order to be a good mom I needed to sleep." That was my rationalization for sleep training Sweet Pea only a few months after we got her from China. I knew she'd be better if she slept, and me too. Everything is better with more sleep, and as we both know, everything is WORSE when we're not getting it. Thank you for commenting. I appreciate it so much and I loved hearing from you. :)

We had almost the same with our second daughter, she is from Hunan. She was two when we got her. She was terrified going to sleep, and then she had frequent night terrors every night, aften 4-5 times in two hour intervals. This was for the first six months. I promise you i aged ten years. It was horrible and i found myself so sleep deprived and desperate i grabbed her hard and shouted at her ... That was when i realised i needed help. I tried to do everything right with attachment etcetera, and we didnt have any famiky colse to us. But i found that in order to be a good mom i needed sleep. I couldnt be there for her in a good way otherwise. We got a live in nanny. I could take a nap in the middle of the day, we could go out for dinner and leave our (screaming) daughter for a few hours with someone she knew ... Maybe a coincidense, but the night terrors disapppeared. Or they got fewer. Now, 4,5 years later, she has about one every three months. Usually, if she didnt sleep enough the night before. Kids sleep better the more they sleep.
Oh well!

Not at all! I didn't think you were making a judgement about that at all. If you have time, please post a pic of your 3 to the DS&D Facebook page. I'd love to see them!

I hope you know I wasn't making a judgement about how you got your baby to sleep by herself. I thought we were naming our youngest Ava but my husband saw Avari on a baby name site and that was it :)
