Oh, Elizabeth. I’m so sorry. I can only imagine how painful that must be for you. He died a hero, but that’s little comfort when it’s someone you miss every day. I’m so sorry. My brother served in Iraq and unfortunately passed away over there. It’s been almost 11 years ago and I still miss him everyday.

I had to put up with Marines in Army Intelligence School, they thought they were the best branch of service. I had a run in with this one that keep waking me up in the morning screaming in my face. So he found out that he was not invulnerable as I had to beat the crap out of him.

Marines, eck, bleck, you met a Army person just back from Korea in full uniform. Your father was carrying you in the crock of your arm. You were at the Metro Airport and I just finished my service in the Army. Don’t you remember, it was August 1969?

Some of my students go into the military when they graduate (three Marines going this year). A few years ago, I wrote a letter of recommendation for a boy who is in Colorado at the US Air Force Academy (I made sure they would not look into MY background before I wrote the letter…). I am going to have my students write letters. Do you want me to send them to you, and you mail them out? How will you know we did this?
